On Beckett

Have a look at this clip with Abbott and Costello, a possible source for the dialogues in Waiting for Godot. One critic, John Fletcher suggests that the dialogue in the play "owes a great deal in fact to the tried and trusted alternation of music-hall cross-talk routines, in which a "straight" man is placed opposite a "funny" man who delights the audience by becoming embroiled in the complexities of some problem his partner is attempting, with diminishing patience, to elucidate for his benefit".
